ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Babar Awan on Tuesday resigned as Prime Minister’s Adviser on Parliamentary Affairs, ARY News reported.

“Just reached PM House to tender my resignation from Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs. Rule of Law begins with me. Thank you, Insafians for standing by me always. I will never let you down,” the senior leader wrote in a tweet posted on his official Twitter account.

The PTI leader also posted a snap of his handwritten resignation in which he stated that he resigns from his post in compliance with pledge made by Prime Minister Imran Khan and to prove that NAB’s  allegations against him are false.

“As a lawyer too, I don’t find it fit to stay glued to my post (as adviser to PM). With this act, I am making a strong statement that none is above the law,” reads the resignation letter.

He added that he is following in the footsteps of the Holy Prophet (S.A.W) companions by presenting himself for accountability.

It is pertinent to note here that NAB on Tuesday had filed a reference in an accountability court against  Babar Awan and PPP-era Minister for Water and Power Raja Parvez Ashraf and others regarding delay in the Nandipur Power Project case.

Few days ago, a NAB Investigation team had reportedly questioned him for three hours about his alleged role in delaying the project that caused a loss of billions of rupees to the national exchequer.
