Varun has been the latest sensation in Bollywood, with his charming, romance-oriented roles in previous movies such as Student of the Year, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania and Main Tera Hero. However, in Badlahpur, the star goes the extra mile to play a revenge driven person who commits horrendous acts in order to avenge the death of his wife and son.
“The film is about Raghu’s revenge, but, for me it is a story of an emotional person. The biggest emotional angle for me is to have a son and losing him was hardhitting,” said Varun, who has emotionally invested in the film. “Sriram Raghavan gave me dark narratives to take out the right emotions on screen,” he said. Varun revealed that his disturbing role had an adverse effect on his mind and as a result, many people parted ways with him, his girlfriend included.”Badlapur messed me up and I had gone crazy. So many people around me left me and one of them was my girlfriend.”
Badlapur is directed by Sriram Raghavan and stars Huma Qureshi, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Yami Gautum and Nawazuddin Siddiqui besides Varun. The main character Raghu, an average citizen of Pune changes for the bad when his wife and child are incidentally killed in a robbery gone awry. This causes Raghu to retreat to a distant city aptly titled Badlahpur. The film’s gritty violence and twisted violent scenes have struck a chord with the audience and Varun, it seems according to him, wanted exactly that.
“Young people watch Dexter, The Mentalist, The Walking Dead, which is the new pop culture in America. I wanted to create the same culture,” added Varun.
Director Sriram Raghavan has previously directed Ek Hasina Thi and Johnny Gaddar. Whatever the case may be, we certainly hope Varun gets his girlfriend back. Unfortunate as it may be, we can’t seem to blame the poor girl for being just a tad bit scared!
