RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa telephoned former prime minister Nawaz Sharif to inquire after the health of his ailing wife who has recently been diagnosed with throat cancer, ARY News reported.

“COAS made a telephone call to Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. Expressed his best wishes and prayers for health of Begum Kalsoom Nawaz Sharif,” said Director General Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military’s media wing, in a tweet.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate for NA-120 by-polls, Kulsoom Nawaz, who is in London these days, has been told by doctors that she is suffering from throat cancer which is curable and the lady will undergo treatment in a London clinic.

Begum Kulsoom will contest the by-polls in NA-120 vacated after the disqualification of former premier Nawaz Sharif by the Supreme Court.

Sources said that her daughter Maryam Nawaz Sharif will run her election campaign and represent her in her absence.

The NA-120 seat, Lahore-III, fell vacant after the Supreme Court of Pakistan disqualified Nawaz Sharif as the premier of the country, and asked ECP to issue a notification removing him as a member of the National Assembly.
