Balochistan govt devising policy to boost mineral sector: CM Kamal

QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal on Monday said that the government was devising new policies to boost mines and mineral sector, ARY News reported.

Expressing concerns over the current situation, Jam Kamal said, “A province enriched with natural resources generates less than that of  a factory.” He said that the annual income of the mines and mineral department was only around Rs2 to 2.5 million.

Addressing a seminar in connection with progress in mineral sector, Jam Kamal said that the provincial government had decided to increase lease fee for mining as people were not working after taking lease contract. The chief minister said that the government was working on legislation for good coherence in the province.

He said that Pakistan-China Economic Corridor brought huge investment in the province and added that they were focusing on development projects and infrastructure of the province.

Earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan, on January 15, had asserted that Balochistan’s mineral wealth can transform Pakistan into a prosperous country.

Talking to the participants of third National Security Workshop Balochistan, PM Imran had said that China Pakistan Economic Corridor would open new vista of development and progress in Balochistan.

He had underscored the need for skill development in Balochistan and said that the government was seeking help from China to overcome the issue.
