Bangladesh beat Sri Lanka by 90 runs in first ODI

DAMBULLA: Tamim Iqbal’s 8th ODI ton and impressive performance from the bowlers helped Bangladesh to beat Sri Lanka by 90 runs in the 1st ODI and take 1-0 lead in the 3 match series.

Earlier Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to field first. Bangladesh Skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza returned to the side after recovering from a finger injury while Mehidy Hasan made his ODI debut.

BAN-SRI

After the early dismissal of Soumya Sarkar, Tamim Iqbal and Sabbir Rahman added 90 runs in the 2nd wicket. Sabbir was dismissed by Asela Gunaratne on 54. Mushfiqur Rahim followed him in the next over and gone for 1.

Shakib Al Hasan made a partnership of 144 runs with Tamim in the 4th wicket. Suranga Lakmal broke this partnership and got rid of Shakib on 72.

Tamim was the next man to be dismissed on 127 by Lahiru Kumara. Mosaddek Hossain and Mahmudullah added 35 runs in the 6th wicket and helped Bangladesh to score past 320 runs.

Mosaddek was unbeaten on 24 from 9 and Mahmudullah was on 13 from 7. Suranga Lakmal was the most successful bowler for Sri Lanka with 2 wickets for 45 runs.

In reply Sri Lanka lost Danushka Gunathilaka as Mashrafe struck in the first over. Mehidy Hasan picked up his maiden ODI wicket to dismiss Kusal Mendis on 4. Soon Taskin Ahmed got rid of Upul Tharanga on 19.

Asela Gunaratne and Dinesh Chandimal added 56 runs in the 4th wicket. Shakib Al Hasan broke this partnership and dismissed Gunaratne on 24. Mehidy struck again and removed Chandimal on 59.

Couple of overs later Mustafizur Rahman dismissed Siriwardana on 22. Shanaka Pathirana was the next man to be dismissed by Mashrafe on 31. Mustafizur picked up the wicket of Suranga Lakmal on 8.

Lakshan Sandakan was run out on 3.Thisara Perera was the last man to dismissed by Mustafizur on 55.

With 3 wickets for 56 runs, Mustafizur Rahman was the most successful bowler for Bangladesh. Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and Mehidy Hasan also picked up 2 wickets each.

Second One Day will take place at the same venue on 28th March.
