Bangladesh begins World T20 with 9-wicket victory against Afghanistan

TOP NEWS

MIRPUR: Bangladesh has defeated Afghanistan by 9 wickets victory in a one sided match of World T20, Qualifying Group A on Sunday, ARY News reported.

Bangladesh after winning the toss decided to field first at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur.

Mushfiqur Rahim's  decision to bowl first was slightly strange given that he felt the day before that chasing was hard in T20s.

But the decision was vindicated by Bangladesh's best bowling performance in this format. Skittling Afghanistan out for just 72 runs in 17.1 overs was the first time they had bowled out an opposition in T20s.

Shakib Al Hassan was the most successful bowler, who took three wickets in his 3.1 overs spell conceding 8 runs only.

Afghanistan’s batting was disappointing as only three batsmen managed to score in double figures.

Gulbadin Naib scored 21 runs from 22 balls, Shafiqullah made 16 while Karim Sadiq got run out at 10.

Bangladesh comfortably won the match with 48 balls remaining, with Anamul Haque powering their chase with an unbeaten 33-ball 44.

Tamim Iqbal scored 21 and Shakib ul Hassan remained not out at 10.

The nine wickets victory against Afghanistan in the World T20 opener, allowed Bangladesh to take a big step towards entering the main draw of their home tournament, and avoided the discomfort of losing to an Associate nation twice in the space of 16 days.
