QUETTA: Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) has finally agreed to nominate Jam Kamal Khan as the next chief minister of Balochistan.

Former chief minister Abdul Quddus Bizenjo, who was also vying for the coveted post, will be nominated as the Speaker of the Balochistan Assembly.

Addressing a press conference, BAP leader Manzoor Kakar said that consultation is underway with allied parties to finalise the names for the provincial cabinet and will be announced in a couple of days.

He said that Jamal Kamal, who is also the president of the party, has stepped back from the post of the Speaker, and instead Bizenjo will be nominated. He said the decision has been for the benefit of the people and the province.

He further said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan has assured to solve the problems of Balochistan at the federal level. The BAP had earlier offered unconditional support to the PTI, and agreed to form a minority government in Balochistan.

Kakar said they will hold meaningful dialogue with disgruntled Baloch leaders to bring them to the national fold, but only with those accepting the sovereignty of the country.

BAP received 30 out of 50 general seats in the Balochistan Assembly, giving it a simple majority to form the provincial government.
