The aspiring dental surgeon named Abdul Basit was studying at a private university in Karachi. He was barred by the varsity administration from entering in examination hall for arriving late as his car broke down on the way.
Disheartened by the attitude of the administration, Basit set fire to himself. He was immediately rushed to hospital, but could not defy death for long and succumbed to burns.
Meanwhile, Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ebad took notice of the incident and sought explanation from the vice-chancellor (VC) of the university.
