Benazir Bhutto's gift to Chitral becoming scrap
CHITRAL: Generators in Chitral worth million of rupees, that were purchased in 1995 during the era of former Prime Minister late Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto are becoming scrap and damaged, ARY News reported on Saturday.
According to sources, in the bid to provide electricity to the people of Chitral, Benazir Bhutto gifted diesel generators for electrification of major villages. The generators were shifted to Chitral to establish grid stations in Mastuj, Shahgram, Brep, Garam Chashma and other areas.
Later on, land was acquired, buildings were constructed for the grid stations of the diesel generators but contractors who built the buildings left the project midway and even did not fix the doors and windows. And the building has been ruined and is being used by the local residents for cultivation.
Meanwhile, the generators are now kept in open air in front of the police station without any protection which is now becoming scarp.
The local residents have appealed the government to take immediate measures to start utilization of generators for electricity generation.
