One of the most famous film stars on the planet. Bachchan was born on October 11. 1942. He first gained popularity in the early 1970s for movies like Deewar and Zanjeer, and was dubbed India’s first “angry young man” for his on-screen roles in Bollywood.

His early works were not appreciated. His rise to stardom started when Director Prakash Mehra cast him in the leading role for the film Zanjeer (1973) as Inspector Vijay Khanna. The film was a sharp contrast to the romantically themed films that had generally preceded it and established Amitabh in a new persona—the “angry young man” of Bollywood cinema.

Amitabh’s entry into Bollywood entirely changed the face of Hindi cinema completely as he took the film industry to storm with his spectacular performances. Even today, watching his popular films like Deewar, Silsila, Sholay and Zanjeer give an indescribable pleasure.

Besides a number of awards, Bachchan has been honoured with National Film award, Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, France’s highest civilian honour, the Knight of the Legion of Honour, among other recognitions.
