ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry has said the criticism by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on the government was aimed at influencing the investigation into fake bank accounts of his father Asif Ali Zardari being carried out on the orders of the Supreme Court.

Bilawal in fact wanted the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), which was probing alleged money laundering through the fake accounts, to support his father, he claimed while talking to a news channel.

He said Bilawal Bhutto should wait as more fake accounts of his father could be unearthed in next three weeks.

Fawad said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government had a clear policy that it would not make any compromise over corruption whether it was done by Asif Ali Zardari, Nawaz Sharif or anybody else.

Both Nawaz and Zardari had same concern that their accounts should not be exposed showing as to how they became billionaires over the last 30 years, he added.

He said both the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the PPP considered that democracy would be in danger if accounts of their leadership were probed.

Replying to a question about terrorist attacks occurred before the general election 2018, the minister said a specific pattern was observed in most of incidents. About 90 per cent of the terror acts had been resolved after thorough inquiries, he added.

Replying to another question about treason cases against politicians, he said not a single case of such nature had been registered since the PTI government came into power.

Commenting over the chairmanship of Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Fawad said the PTI would strongly oppose the election of opposition leader Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif for the post because it would affect transparent audit of the previous government’s projects. How Shehbaz Sharif could fairly audit the projects which were initiated by his brother Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, he asked.
