KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari says his party will avenge the blood of martyrs by sweeping the upcoming general elections in Karachi.

Speaking to the media here, the PPP chairman asked PTI chief Imran Khan to contest the forthcoming polls from Karachi and hoped the people of the metropolis will put the supporter of terrorists to rout.

To a question about political parties having backtracked on the demand for across-the-board accountability, the PPP chairman said former premier Nawaz Sharif wanted to stoke clash between state institutions.

He affirmed his party would not exacerbate the situation, adding that confrontation was not in favour of democracy and therefore, should be avoided.

Across-the-board accountability was the main plank of his party policy, he added.

Bilawal claimed his party had not the strength required to have the bill calling for accountability of all passed through parliament.

Pushing for reforms in the aftermath of disqualification of Nawaz Sharif and the filing of references against him would have reinforced the perception that reforms were person-specific, which would have undermined parliament.

He said they wanted reforms for country, institutions, democracy by taking all the stakeholders on board.

The PPP leader said Nawaz Sharif-sponsored law, aimed at bringing reforms in the country, would have undermined parliament.
