LAHORE: In reaction to the amalgamation of Janoobi Punjab Suba Mahaz into the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan People’s Party chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Wednesday said it is his party that can create a separate province in south Punjab.

“Imran Khan says he will create a separate province within 100 days. We saw how he failed to fulfill the promises he made in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He made a promise to eliminate corruption and terrorism in 90 days, but failed.”

He said the PPP is the only party that first took a major step towards formation of a province in south Punjab by moving a bill in the Senate in this regard and recalled how those who are demanding a new province now opposed the move at that time.

His party will create a separate province once it comes into power after the upcoming general elections, he announced.

To a question about Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s call to summon NAB chairman’s Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal to Parliament for ordering a money-laundering inquiry against former premier Nawaz Sharif, he said it is the prerogative of Parliament to summon anyone.

He said his party wanted to bring reforms to the NAB laws, but Sharif opposed them and now when he is entangled in corruption cases has been calling for reforms.

Bilawal said no one will take the former premier seriously as his demand for reforms centered around his personal interests.
