14 dead, several injured in Sibi train blast

SIBI: At least 14 people were killed and 42 injured in a power explosion that ripped through Jaffar Express near Sibi Railway Station, ARY News reported Tuesday.

Federal Minister for Railways Khwaja Saad Rafique had confirmed the death toll to 12 and said over 30 injured in the incident. However, rescue sources informed that toll had now reached 14. 

The minister had said investigation into the foul play had been started. He said around 80 people were aboard the bogie where the bomb was planted. 

The minister also contacted the deputy superintendent Railways and sought report of the blast.   

GM Railways operation said the Jaffar Express was heading to Lahore from Quetta when a blast hit the train at the Sibi Railway Station during its stopover.

The explosion occurred in one of the bogies when it was at Sibbi Railway Station. Three of the bogies have been badly affected due to explosion.

The injured persons are being shifted to nearby hospitals. The heirs of the injured complained inadequate facilities at the hospitals, thus risking the lives of victims.
