British Govt does not interfere in police affairs, says Philip Barton

ISLAMABAD: The British High Commissioner (HC), Philip Barton has said that the British Government does not interfere in police affairs and the London Metropolitan Police is independent and free of political influence, in its investigations of a case – ARY News reports.

Commenting on the arrest of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief by the British Police, Philip Barton said that British Police is an independent organization, free of any kind of political influence.

Talking to ARY News, he said that the British Government cannot obstruct police investigations of money laundering case against Hussain.

Earlier today, reports hit media that the London Metropolitan Police arrested the MQM Chief in the money laundering case; however MQM leaders entirely negated these reports.

Member of MQM Raabita Committee London, Nadeem Nusrat during a telephonic conversation told that Altaf Hussain is present at his residence and there is no truth in reports pertaining to his arrest.

MQM leaders advised party workers to remain calm, peaceful and to stay united. They further asked the workers to stay in touch with party leadership and vowed to provide all the updates on the matter as received.

Thousands of MQM workers gathered at the party secretariat, Nine-Zero, to receive first hand information about their leader and to express solidarity with him.
