Britney Spears’ application to remove her father from the conservatorship of her estate has been rejected by a Los Angeles court, reported Variety.

Los Angeles Superior Court judge Brenda Penny declined Britney’s application to suspend James Spears from his conservatorship in a hearing on Tuesday. The move came after Britney’s attorney Samuel D. Ingham III told the judge that she was afraid of her father.

“My client has informed me that she is afraid of her father. She will not perform again if her father is in charge of her career,” he said.

James’ attorney Vivian Thoreen made his case tight by sharing that Britney’s net worth had come out of debt and reached $60mn under his conservatorship. According to Variety, financial company Bessemer Trust has now been appointed as a co-conservator.

Britney, 38, has been trying to break free from her father James Spears, who has been her co-conservator since the singer went through a very public breakdown in 2008. James then got sole conservatorship of Britney’s estate after attorney Andrew Wallet resigned from his role as co-conservator.

There is also an ongoing #FreeBritney campaign on social media backed by her fans who claim that the Toxic hitmaker is being controlled by her father against her will.
