Police reluctant to register case against ex-CIA chief

Islamabad Police, in opposition to the orders of the Islamabad High Court (IHC), declined to register a case against former station chief of the CIA in Pakistan.

The IHC yesterday ordered the IG Islamabad Police, Tahir Alam to register a case against Jonathan Banks over casualties in Pakistan’s tribal areas due to US drone attacks.

The court had ordered for the registration of a case with Secretariat police station.

However, the Capital Police decided to file an intra court appeal on Thursday against the verdict of the IHC.

Earlier to this, the Islamabad Police had submitted its reply in the court that the casualties due to US drone attacks occurred in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata), not in Islamabad, and hence a case should also be registered there [Fata].
