Caretaker govt rules out any chance of delay in general elections

ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Information Minister Syed Ali Zafar has ruled out any chance of postponement or delay in general elections.

In an interview on Tuesday, he said that General Elections 2018 will be held on July 25, regardless of any likely judgment of the accountability court in Avenfield Reference against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his family members.

Syed Ali Zafar said it was responsibility of caretaker set up to ensure free, fair and transparent elections and this task would be accomplished amicably.

Earlier, Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar reaffirmed that the upcoming general elections will be held on time and that if someone cherished a thought about delay in the polls should get it out of their mind.

“If anyone had the thought that elections could be delayed by two to three months should get it out of their mind,” the chief justice said.
