RAWALPINDI: Police on Monday registered three FIRs against Captain (retd) Safdar and several other PML-N leaders at different police stations of the city for taking out a rally to obstruct his arrest by putting up a human shield of party workers.

Safdar, who had went into hiding after the pronouncement of the Avenfield case verdict, reached Rawalpindi and led a rally of supporters before his arrest at the hands of a NAB team.

The cases have been registered at Waris Khan, City and New Town police stations. Safdar, Chaudhry Tanveer, Daniyal Chaudhry, and Raja Hanif are among those named in the FIRs.

The FIR registered at Waris Khan police station nominated 14 PML-N leaders.  The former premier’s son-in-law, a convict who was handed out one year’s jail term by an accountability court on Friday, has been accused of leading a rally and blocking road without permission.

It alleged that the participants of the rally violated the ECP’s code of conduct for general elections and relevant sections of the amplifiers act.

The case has been registered under sections 149, 147, 188, 341, and 3/7 of the Amplifier Act.

In another FIR registered at City police station, more than 50 PML-N leaders and supporters have been named under similar sections of relevant laws.

According to the content of the case, PML-N leader Shakeel Awan along with others took out a rally in Rawalpindi’s Raja Bazaar despite a ban on such rallies under section 144 imposed by the Punjab government.

New Town police nominated more than 100 PML-N leaders and workers who were part of the rally.
