ISLAMABAD: Council of Common Interests (CCI) has approved the 5-Year National Energy Policy 2013-18 while postponed the decision for census, ARY news reported.
Prime Minster Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif chaired a meeting of CCI in Islamabad on Monday. It was attended by Chief Ministers, federal ministers and secretaries of all four provinces while Secretary Inter Provincial Coordination Division Ejaz Chaudhry presented the agenda items.
Addressing the meeting‚ PM Nawaz Sharif said the government cannot bear losses of national institutes with limited resources. Unnecessary recruitments and corruption in the past has destroyed the national enterprises. He said that privatization is the only solution to the problem.
The Prime Minister said that Thar Coal is a significant national project‚ which will allow to produce cheap electricity. Moreover‚ it was decided that Sovereign Guarantees would be provided for all future coal based projects.
During the meeting CCI also approved the privatization of Lakhra power plant. Meanwhile CCI decided to expedite the transfer of properties in the name of PTCL so that 800 million dollars outstanding on account of its privatization could be realized. On the other hand CCI rejected the summary for implementing tax on buying and selling of foreign currency.
Furthermore, the Pakistan Engineering Council (Amendment) Bill 2013 was approved by the CCI.
