Panamagate: Celebrations in opposition camps as Sharif sent packing

KARACHI: The pronouncement of the verdict by the Supreme Court of Pakistan in a case pertaining to the Panamagate scandal gave way to celebrations in the opposition camps, ARY News reported.

There were scenes of jubilation outside the apex court as political leaders pushed their way through the crowd to reach the media dais to vent their feelings amid chanting of  ‘Go Nawaz Go’ slogans.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi

Reacting to the verdict, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf vice chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi expressed his gratitude to the judges of the apex court and the Panamagate JIT members. “This historic decision has strengthened trust of people in the judiciary.”

He said, “All eyes were set on the top court as people were hopeful that the apex court will do justice. The judiciary deserved appreciation for giving momentous judgment and the JIT members for drawing up such report despite extreme pressure from certain quarters.” “For the first time, those governing the country are being subjected to accountability. Foundation for new Pakistan has been laid with this judgment.”

Jehangir Khan Tareen

PTI leader Jahangir Khan Tareen said, “It all happened because of PTI chief Imran Khan’s unflinching struggle. This is the beginning of the actual era of democracy. PTI is ready to carry out its responsibilities in line with democratic norms.”

Sirajul Haq

Jamaat-e-Islami chief Sirajul Haq said, “the verdict has brought an end to the control of one family over democracy and rule. All those who embezzled the public money should be subjected to accountability.” He congratulated the top court, legal fraternity, journalists, and political workers for supporting him.

Sheikh Rasheed

Speaking to ARY News, Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rasheed said that our battle is finally over. “The corruption charges have been proven against the PM. Now we should bring the country forward. The verdict proved that the constitution and law are supreme. ” He advised the PM to continue fight his legal battle.
