Census 2017: Karachi divided into 365 sections

KARACHI: For making the data collection process of ‘sixth population and house census’ trouble-free, to be begun from Wednesday, Karachi city has been divided into 365 sections, 2412 circles, and 14,552 census blocks, ARY News reported.

Each enumerator has been assigned two census blocks for data collection.

The census will be conducted in step wise.

In initial phase of the data collection, from March 15 to 17, house census will be conducted while in second phase which will start from March 18 to 27, population details will be gathered, officials said.

In third and the final phase of the census, which will begin on March 28, counting of the homeless and internally displaced people (IDPs) would be completed.

Census Security

Strict security arrangements have been made for first phase of ‘sixth population and housing census’.

For security of enumerators and other census staff, services of 13 thousand personnel of Pakistan Army sought in six districts of Karachi while 18 thousand Police personnel will also be deployed to ensure security.

Furthermore, District West has been declared sensitive and Sindh Rangers has been asked to intensify patrolling in the area.
