Chairman Army ESC, CEC discuss security matters for general elections

ISLAMABAD: Chairman Army Election Support Centre Lieutenant General Hamood uz Zaman Khan called on Chief Election Commissioner Sardar Muhammad Raza in Islamabad on Saturday to discuss matters pertaining to security in upcoming general elections. 

Hamood uz Zaman Khan on behalf of Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa assured the chief election commissioner that Pakistan army would play its role under the constitution.

Sardar Raza appreciated the resolve of Pakistan Army and hoped all provincial governments would also play their due role in conducting free and fair elections.

Earlier, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) released the final list of candidates running for national and provincial Assembly seats in the July 25 elections.

According to the commission, a total of 3, 459 candidates are contesting for 272 general seats of the national assembly while 8,396 candidates are up for 577 general seats of the four provincial assemblies.

According to details, 1, 623 candidates will fight from Punjab, 824 from Sindh, 725 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and 287 from Balochistan for the national assembly seats.

A total of 4, 036 candidates are in the run for 297 general seats of the Punjab Assembly, 2, 252 candidates for 130 general seats of the Sindh Assembly, 1,165  for 99 KP Assembly seats, and 943 for 51 seats of Balochistan Assembly.
