KARACHI: The Chehlum of Imam Hussain (R.A) being marked on Tuesday (today) amid countrywide security alert to avoid any untoward incident, ARY News reported.
The authorities have suspended cellular services and pillion riding on motorcycles has been banned.
In Karachi 10,000 security men have been deployed for security of the central mourning procession.
Under a security plan the mourning procession route would be monitored through aerial surveillance and with the help of closed-circuit television cameras.
Cellular services in cities including Karachi, Quetta, Hyderabad, Sukkur and Khairpur have been suspended. Pillion riding has been prohibited for a day across Sindh province, in Lahore and other parts of the country.
Fourteen Chehlum processions in Karachi have been declared highly sensitive.
In view of Ashura violence several parts of Rawalpindi have been sealed for fear of untoward incidents.
Thousands of police personnel and Rangers have been deployed in the city.
Strict security measures have also been taken in Lahore, Peshawar Multan and tribal areas.
