STAMFORD: Chelsea defeated Manchester United by 3-1 at Stamford Bridge and remained top in the hunt for the English Premier League, ARY News reported.
Samuel Eto’o’s hatrick helped Chelsea in the big win against Man Utd. He scored against the run of play after beating a static Phil Jones on the edge of his box, his shot looping off Michael Carrick’s ankle and over David de Gea. Eto’o got his second when he turned in Gary Cahill’s low cross when United failed to clear a corner and completed his hat-trick a few minutes after half-time, poking in his third after De Gea saved a Cahill header.
United, however started brightly but the best chance they created was an Ashley Young shot from a tight angle. They sent in plenty of crosses, but of such low quality it meant little.
Although Javier Hernandez scored a goal in the 78th minute, the game came to its inevitable conclusion, an easy Chelsea win.
Manchester United have lost seven Premier League games this season – the same as David Moyes' Everton side last year.
