ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar on Monday observed that anti-judiciary slogans were raised after the Supreme Court’s verdict on time-limit for the disqualification of parliamentarians under Article 62 (1)(f), but the court has been exercising restraint.
During the hearing of a case, the chief justice remarked that people were made to raise anti-judiciary slogans following the court verdict.
“Anti-judiciary slogans were raised using women shield. What can we say to women? Are there any men behind this, they should come forward to talk to us,” the chief justice said.
He said people would see how the court pulls the nation out of the quagmire and added that they are keeping patience and putting up with various things.
On April 13, in a historic verdict, the apex court ruled that disqualification of public representatives, including two high-profile political leaders – Nawaz Sharif and Jahangir Tareen – under Article 62(1)(f), is for life.
A five-member bench of the top court, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar, gave this verdict on as many as 17 petitions seeking to determine the length of disqualification under Article 62(1)(f) – the provision under which former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was disqualified.
