CJP orders restoration of Nawaz Sharif’s security

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Monday ordered the authorities concerned to provide the required security protocol to ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif as per rules. 

Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar, who was heading a bench of the apex court, gave this order while hearing a case pertaining to the withdrawal of security personnel from unauthorized influential individuals.

He observed that the court didn’t want to endanger the life of any person. Nawaz Sharif should be provided security as per laws, he ordered.

Justice Nisar said it is for the law enforcement agencies to determine whether a person needs security personnel or not. “We haven’t ordered the withdrawal of anyone’s security.”

The bench directed the police to submit a report spelling out how many guards could be deployed for the security of an individual. He also ordered provision of security to ANP chief Asfandyar Wali Khan.

The hearing of the case was adjourned for a week.

The latest order on provision of security to the former premier comes in the wake of tweets by Maryam Nawaz in which she said: “My Lord! Take away the security of the prime minister who looked straight into the eyes of terrorism and flushed it out.”

Maryam NawazAccording to a report, more than 13, 600 police personnel deployed to provide security to unauthorized persons have been withdrawn across the country on orders of the apex court.

According to the details, 4,610 police personnel have been called back to their stations in Punjab, 5,005 in Sindh, 3,000 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 829 in Balochistan and 246 in Islamabad.
