MUMBAI: Running for over 21 years, India’s popular detective series, CID, is finally going off-air and Twitterati are not happy after the announcement.

Indian media reports cite Dayanand Shetty, who plays the role of Daya in the show, as confirming the report to the Times of India.

The show will air its final episode on 27th October 2018. Fans are upset that the iconic show that has been running for 21 years will come to an end now and so abruptly. Speaking to the portal, Dayanand said, “We were in our 21st year and had we shot for a fwe more episodes, we would have entered our 22nd year. It is quite an unfortunate thing to happen as we were shooting like always and suddenly we were informed by our producer that the shooting has been called off indefinitely because there were issues with the channel.”

He adds, “I am going to miss the character, but we feel sad for the audience as they enjoyed the show and it was doing well. The entire cast and crew is very dedicated towards their work and we are like a big happy family. We are going to miss each other as this was our second home.”

CID series is a fictional investigative show which consists of criminal cases that are taken heads on and dealt with Crime Investigation Department members including ACP Pradyuman, Senior Inspectors Abhijeet and Daya and Inspector Fredricks, Sub-Inspectors Purvi and Pankaj and forensic experts Dr. Salunkhe and Dr. Tarika.

Ever since the show vanished from the small screen after its last episode in July without a clue on its return, the fans were anxious to know the background. The fans have already started a #saveCID campaign on social media. Many of them are requesting the channel to not chop off the show while a few others have gotten emotional and are sharing how CID has been like a family to them.

Since 1997 till now, CID has successfully aired close to 1,500 episodes. The show had undergone several changes with the cast and story line-up, but the plot remained the same.
