CJ has nothing to do with elections: Iftikhar Chaudhry
ISLAMABAD: Former Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has said that the chief justice has nothing to do with elections, ARY News reports on Tuesday.
Talking to media after addressing Islamabad Bar, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said that it is the responsibility of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to appoint Returning Officers for the elections. "I do not wish to give answers to useless statements", he said.
"Strong foundations of democracy have been laid in the country and it cannot be endangered", he added.
He further said that judiciary and military are two key institutions of Pakistan and there should not be a confrontation between them. "It cannot be ignored that judiciary is a key pillar of the state", he said.
"It is the responsibility of the members of judiciary to maintain the system of accountability", Chaudhry said.
