The proceedings of the case came to a standstill after former head of the special tribunal Justice Faisal Arab became the Chief Justice of Sindh High Court (SHC).

The special bench to hear the treason case against Musharraf was formed on 19th November 2013. The other two members of the tribunal include Justice Syeda Tahira Safdar from Balochistan High Court and Lahore High Court’s Justice Yawar Ali.

CJP has now appointed Justice Mazhar Alam as the third judge of the special tribunal to hear the treason case.

Former President and Army Chief General (Retd.) Pervez Musharraf was indicted in the treason trial on March 31, 2014.

The former military ruler is accused of treason under Article 6 for suspending, subverting and abrogating the Constitution, imposing an emergency in the country in November 2007 and detaining judges of the superior courts.
