Shehbaz appears before SC in 56 companies corruption case

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif appeared before the Supreme Court on Sunday afternoon following a summon in a case pertaining to the alleged financial irregularities in 56 companies.

Chief Justice Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar termed the replies of Shehbaz unsatisfactory and asked how the taxpayers’ money is being wasted by way of corruption.

The chief minister said:“I saved billions of rupees of the national exchequer. If you are not contented with my answers then you may give your verdict.”

He further requested the Chief Justice to summon him tomorrow for coming prepared along with all case’s details.

“Those company owners who will not return country’s money will have to go to jail,” CJP angrily said.

Earlier today, while hearing a suo moto case against the alleged corruption in 56 companies, on Sunday, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar had ordered former chief minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif to appear in the case before the court.

CJP stated that Shehbaz Sharif should present himself to give an explanation in the case.

Moreover, the apex court directed the National Accountability Court (NAB) to estimate the values of properties owned by Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of six companies out of 56 alleged companies.

On the other hand, NAB Lahore has also summoned Shehbaz Sharif to appear on Monday for questioning in connection with a probe into alleged financial wrongdoings in the Saaf Pani Company.
