CM Punjab meets Tatarstan President to boost Russian relations

LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif on Saturday met with President of Tatarstan Mr. Rustam Minnikhanvo in Lahore.

Tatarstan is a semi-autonomous federal subject of the Russian Federation located in the Volga district.

CM Punjab welcomed the Tatarstan President to Lahore, and said that Pakistan has good relations with Russia and the visit will strengthen relations between the two countries.

President Tatarstan said that he delighted to visit Lahore. “I’m very happy to be in Lahore. Both countries will further extend cooperation in different sectors”

They discussed a range of bilateral issues and decided to collaborate for promotion of skill development, industry, technology, agriculture, tourism, health and other sectors.

Government of Punjab and Tatarstan have formed a committee to extending cooperation in various fields. Both agreed on the need to strength bilateral relations and increase regional cooperation.

Shahbaz Sharif impressed Tarstan President by his Russian language skills. “I am amazed by your fluency in Russian,” quipped Minnikhanvo.

They also discussed the threat the extremism and terrorism. CM Punjab said that terrorists are the killers of humanity, and there is a need to increase efforts to eradicate the menace.

President Rustam said that terrorism and extremism have nothing to do with Islam.

Shahbaz Sharif  informed him that he visited Tatarstan in 1999 when Minnikhanvo was the prime minister. He promised to visit Tatarstan in June.
