The COAS briefed the PM on ongoing operation ‘Zarb-e-Azb’ against militants in North Waziristan Agency. The meeting took place at the Prime Minister House.
Sources told that Gen Sharif and the PM discussed issues of national security and current political situation.
It is learnt that the military leadership had suggested the prime minister to take a step back if a situation demands. Sources informed that the COAS and the PM discussed security of the Red Zone in Islamabad.
The security of the federal capital has been given to the Army under Article 245 of the Constitution.
Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has announced to march on Red Zone today in order to press the government to step down and order re-elections in the country. Security has already been beefed up in Islamabad following red alert issued by the administration in view of ‘mammoth’ PTI rally expected today.
