COAS, German FM discuss security, bilateralism

The meeting took place at German Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at which Frank-Walter Steinmeier acknowledged Pakistan’s contribution in war against terrorism and peace in the region, said DG ISPR, Maj Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa.

“Germany understands Pakistan’s challenges,” Bajwa quoted Steinmeier as saying, besides assuring full support to Pakistan in its efforts for regional peace and stability.

Gen Raheel also held an interactive session in Koerber Foundation, a renowned think tank in Berlin, on Tuesday. In his address, the COAS explained in detail the challenges faced by Pak and contribution towards peace and stability in the region.

“Pakistan is successfully closing up to conclusion of kinetic prong of Operation Zarb-e-Azb,” he told. “We have cleared entire Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) up to the borders, together with busting terrorists’ linkages and dismantling their networks.”

The army chief noted that moving beyond this critical stage will require greater understanding and support of international community.

“We have sacrificed immensely, more than any other nation. World needs to stand by us till dividends are fully realized,” he said, maintain that terrorism has morphed into a global phenomenon and warrants global response.

The COAS stressed synergy by all as a requisite to effectively win this war.
