COAS pays rich tribute to martyred AIG Ashraf Noor

RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Friday paid rich tributes to Additional Inspector General (AIG) Mohammad Ashraf Noor, who embraced martyrdom in a blast today. 

Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asif Ghafoor tweeted the army chief’s statement.

Paying a tribute to the martyr, the COAS said: “Salute to supreme sacrifice of our Police comrade AIG Noor. Our determination remains undeterred against threats to our motherland.”

The AIG was martyred while six other policemen injured in the suicide blast in Hayatabad area of Peshawar.

According to police, a suicide bomber was riding a motorbike rammed into the vehicle of AIGP Mohammad Ashraf Noor near Tatara Park in the city’s posh locality of Hayatabad and detonated his explosive.

The vehicle was engulfed in flame, killing Noor on the spot while six other policemen sustained injuries, a police official said.

Live footage of the blast site showed thick cloud of smoke rising from the vehicle.

Rescue officials said the deceased and injured have been shifted to Hayatabad Medical Complex.

Following the blast, a strong contingent of security forces reached the blast site and cordoned it off for security reasons.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast.
