ISLAMABAD: The Secretary of Law, Barrister Zafarullah Khan has said that different political parties are being consulted on the Pakistan Protection Ordinance (PPO), however he said that the circumstances in the country are exceptional, so an exceptional law like PPO is also required – ARY News reports.

Addressing a ceremony here on Thursday relating to counter-terrorism measures, Barrister Zafarullah Khan said that the police, military and paramilitary forces will be further empowered under the PPO and the ordinance will also aid in resolving terrorism cases at the earliest.

He told that consultation with different political parties is underway on the bill and it is hoped that the Senate of Pakistan will approve it.

Meanwhile the Chairman of Islamic Ideology Council (IIC), Molana Muhammad Khan Sherani expressed his serious concerns over the clauses 3 and 14 of the PPO.

Member of the British House of Lords, Lord Carlile said that the law should be further improved.

Former Interior Secretary, Tasneem Noorani fully supported the approval and implementation of PPO, given the uncertain security situation of the country.
