Cops suspended for abusing, beating citizen who filmed VIP protocol in Karachi
KARACHI: Two police cops – assistant sub-inspector and a constable – were suspended after video of them assaulting and foul-mouthing a citizen in Karachi went viral on the social media.
It all happened on Monday when a citizen tried to film a VIP protocol on Karachi’s Shahrah-e-Faisal, not realizing that he was tempting fate by inviting wrath of ‘protectors’ who enjoy a bad reputation of turning into ‘predators’ for citizens on many of the public places. Yes, we are talking about the police.
The video was shared by thousands of people with a hashtag rebuking VIP culture.
After the video of the incident went viral on the social media with strong condemnation by people, Sindh IG Allah Dino Khawaja ordered suspension of SSP security and other police officials involved in physically and verbally abusing the man.
Spokesperson for central police office said in a statement that SP Security Malik Ahsan had been appointed as inquiry officer to look into the matter.
The man while driving his car was making a video of the protocol when the cops spotted him, one of them got off the police van, walked towards the victim’s car, abused him followed by thrashing.
While beating up the citizen, the cop can be heard saying in the video: “How dare you make a video, your father is going in that car [tera baap ja raha hai].
It just didn’t stop here, when the cop was done with hurling abuse and assault the victim; another bunch of cops approached the man and threatened him. The victim, however, didn’t stop filming the whole scene. And it eventually led to suspension of rogue cops.
The man, however, did not stop following the protocol and continued making a video, following which the protocol stopped again and police officials approached him once more.
