LAHORE: Atiq-ur-Rehman, who claims to be the husband of film star Meera, has requested a family court to restrain her from getting married.

The actor is currently locked in a legal wrangle with her alleged former husband who she claims was blackmailing her through a fake marriage certificate.

Meera had earlier approached a family court in Lahore, requesting it to declare the marriage certificate as false.

At the hearing today, Judge Bushra Khalid directed the counsels of both parties to come prepared on next hearing to forward their arguments on a miscellaneous application in the case, filed by Atiq-ur-Rehman. In the new application Rehman requested the judge to bar the actor from getting married until the present case is decided.

It is pertinent to mention here that the court had reserved its verdict in the previous hearing of the case, which was to be announced today. The judge, however, deferred the announcement of judgment after, the alleged husband of the actor filed a miscellaneous petition today.

In her application, Meera had submitted that she had not married Atiq-ur-Reham, who according to her had forged the marriage certificate to blackmail and malign her. The relevant union counsel had already termed it bogus, lending credence to her claim, she added.

She prayed to the court to declare the marriage as false and restrain Atiq from calling himself as her husband. The court was further pleaded to order registration of an FIR of forgery against him for producing fake marriage certificate in the court.
