According to details, the petition was filed by Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf’s Gohar Nawaz Sindhu. It was urged in the petition that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s recent statement was an attempt to put pressure on the accountability body. The petition requested the courts to stop interference from taking place in NAB.
A couple of days ago, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had expressed anger at the National Accountability Bureau and urged it not to disgrace people and stop them from working. He also advised NAB to conduct its activities in a more responsible manner. The PM’s speech was criticised by almost all political analysts and pundits and was seen as an indication of accountability expanding towards the province of Punjab as well.
NAB spokesman Nawazish Ali Asim had said in response to the Prime Minister’s statement that the opinion of the premier was respected and the anti-graft body would further improve the accountability process in light of PM’s directives.
