QUETTA: A session court on Monday indicted Majeed Achakzai MPA, a Balochistan Assembly member,  associated with the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP), in a case related to the murder of a traffic sergeant.

Achakzai has been booked for running over and killing traffic sub-inspector Haji Attaullah on June 20 this year near GPO Chowk in Balochistan provincial capital Quetta.

During the hearing of the case, the judge read out charges against him. The suspect pleaded not guilty and opted to contest the case.

Afterwards, the court summoned the prosecution witnesses for depositions on the next hearing and adjourned the hearing.

Police had arrested the lawmaker following a video showing his vehicle ramming into the traffic officer began circulating on the social media and made headlines.

According to police, traffic sergeant Attaullah died after hit by a rashly driven land cruiser on June 20 while he was performing his duty at the GPO Chowk on Zarghoon Road.

Later, he was booked in two cases – one pertaining to a kidnapping registered at the Satellite Town police station back in 2009.

It merits mention here that Majeed Achakzai is also a close relative of Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai.  He was elected from the PB-13 constituency in Qilla Abdullah district.
