ISLAMABAD: An accountability court in the federal capital on Wednesday directed a prosecution team of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to present Wajid Zia, head of the Panama Joint Investigation Team (JIT), to testify in Al-Azizia reference against Sharif family.

Judge Muhammad Bashir put off the Flagship and Al-Azizia references until March 29 after witness Noureen Shehzad recorded her testimony. Sharif’s lawyer Khawaja Haris cross-examined the witness.

The accountability judge directed the prosecution to ensure presence of the JIT head on next hearing for testimony.

The PML-N supreme leader along with his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law retired Captain Muhammad Safdar appeared before the court.

A day earlier, Wajid Zia, the head of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT), continued to record his statement in a case pertaining to the Sharif family’s London-based Avenfield properties.

He submitted several important documents, including the Iqama, the offshore companies’ flow charts, the trust deeds of Neilsen, and Nescol companies, Robert Redly’s forensic report on Calibri font.

Maryam Nawaz’s lawyer Amjad Pervez raised objections on non-submission of certain documents by Zia, who has been named as a witness in the case. He also opposed making what he said unverified documents a part of the court proceedings.

Sharif along with his sons – Hussain and Hassan – has been named in three references filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in compliance with the Supreme Court’s landmark July 28 verdict last year, while his daughter Maryam and son-in-law Capt. Safdar have been nominated in the Avenfield properties reference.
