KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court on Saturday adjourned the hearing of the Naqeeb murder case until May 28 when it is expected to indict former SSP Malir Rao Anwar and his subordinates on charges of killing a South Waziristan youngster in a fake encounter.

The former police officer along with other accused was presented before the ATC as it resumed the hearing of the case.

Anwar along with 10 of his subordinates has been arrested on charges of abducting Naqeebullah for ransom and later killing him along with three other detainees in a fake encounter on Jan 13 in the outskirts of the city.

The investigation officer submitted a progress report, informing that the police are making all-out efforts to arrest the absconders in the case.

DSP Qamar Ahmed, a close aide of the former SSP Malir, filed an application seeking his release on bail.

When the judge asked a state counsel present in the court to receive notice on bail application, he refused to accept it.

The judge expressed astonishment at the lawyer declining to even receive the notice and said he had already written to the monitoring judge of anti-terrorism courts that if the cases were sent to the court, the staff to tackle the case should also be sent.

The hearing of the case was adjourned till May 28.
