Cow vigilantes set several meat shops on fire in India’s UP

LUCKNOW: Just after two days of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Yogi Adityanath took charge as Chief Minister in Uttar Pradesh (UP), several meat shops in Hathras in UP were set on fire by a mob on Tuesday night.

The police said that the shops were burnt by anti-social elements.

However, a sudden rise in demand of ban on slaughter houses and meat shops have been reported since new government of BJP has come to power in the state.

The local authorities on Monday, shut down two slaughterhouses declaring them being illegal.

Separately, UP police has directed all police stations to take firm action against illegal slaughter houses and cattle smuggling.

Yogi Adityanath, 44-year-old Hindu priest, had aggressively campaigned against slaughter houses in UP. The BJP had promised to take action against illegal slaughter houses only an an imposition of ban against them.
