ISLAMABAD: Planning and Development Minister Ahsan Iqbal on Monday said China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has emerged as the largest development project of Pakistan.
“CPEC is the most important project even in One Belt, One Road (OBOR) vision of China,” he said while addressing a summit on ‘China Pakistan Economic Corridor: Preferences and Challenges’ organized by a private media group in Islamabad.
Ahsan Iqbal said 21st century is based on economics, whereas the 20th century was focused on political ideologies.
He said sustainable development requires long-term planning and the government is committed to make Pakistan a developed, peaceful and prosperous country.
Giving salient features of CPEC, the Planning Minister said this mega project would be completed by 2030 in various phases.
He said due to shortage of electricity in the country, major focus was given to energy projects in the corridor. He said a fiber optic line has been laid down from China to strengthen the digital set up in the country.
He said Gwadar is the gateway to national development and the foundation stone of an airport at this important port of the country will be laid soon. He said the future of Pakistan is emerging in Gwadar.
