Some critical injuries on cricket grounds
Indian wicket keeper Saba Karim’s international cricketing career ended up due to a critical eye injury. Saba Karim got injured by Anil Kumble’s ball during Asia Cup in 2000.
Mark Boucher had same incident and fate as Saba Karim. The star cricketer was hit straight in eyes by Imran Tahir’s delivery. The bail of the wicket hit him in the eye ball that ended his international career.
The legendary West Indian batsman Brain Lara was hit by a bouncer of world’s fastest bowler Shoaib Akhtar in Champions Trophy’s semi final 2004. Lara collapsed on the ground when ball hit him on the helmet.
Steve Waugh and Jason Gillespie
Former Australian skipper Steve Waugh had a fatal collision with Jason Gillespie while fielding during a test match between Australia and Sril Lanka in 1999. The collision broke Steve Waugh’s nose while Gillespie sufferend from broken leg.
Stuart Broad Nose Injury
England’s youngest player Stuart Broad got his nose crushed by a rising delivery of Varun Aaron earlier this year.
Marshall leaves Gatting with broken nose
Former England batsman Mike Gatting’s nose was smashed by Malcolm Marshall in the first ODI in Jamaica in 1986. The ball was misread by Gatting and it cost him a broken nose.
Gary Kirsten hit by Akhtar beamer
Shoaib Akhtar fast beamers hurt many batsman and some of them were left with severe injuries. Former South African opene Gerry Kristen is one of them Shoaib Akhter bowled a short delivery to Kristen and he missed the ball while trying to hook the ball struck him on the cheeks and eyes which resulted in bleeding. The batsman had ten stitches on his eyes and cheeks.
Suresh Raina- Irfan Pathan collision
Another serious collision happened in a CB series ODI match between Australi and India when Suresh Raina and Irfan Pathan ran to catch the ball hit by David Warner. Both the players escaped any serious injury but were hurt badly.
Shoaib Malik-Shahid Afridi collision
Shoaib Malik is injured his shoulder after colliding with Shahid Afridi, 4th ODI match between Pakistan and England at Lords on 12 June 2001.
Ahmed Shehzad injury
Pakistani opener Ahmed Shahzad was hit by short-pitched ball of New Zealand’s bowler Corey Anderson during a test match on 10th of this month. The batsman had a hairline fracture on his cheekbone by this hit.
