CTD registers Karachi car explosion case against unknown persons

KARACHI: The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on Tuesday registered a case of car explosion in city’s Defence area against unknown persons, ARY News reported.

The vehicle was parked at an empty plot near Khadda Market, Defence when it exploded in wee hours of Monday (Dec 3).

The state is complainant in the case and the FIR has been registered under Explosives Act, while different terror charges were also included in the case.

According to police, the blast was caused using an improvised explosive device. While the bomb was connected to six LPG cylinders kept in the car.

The FIR further says that two explosives bags, weighing 2 kg and 6kg, respectively, were also found from the spot.

A fire brigade van was called to douse the flames, which had completely destroyed the car.

However in a dramatic turn, sources citing Bomb Disposal Squad had told ARY News that no clue of cylinder was found from the site. But no official statement was released in this regard.

Police had also decided to obtain CCTV cameras installed outside nearby homes and the road to determine the actual cause of the blast.

The law enforcers said the car that caught fire was stolen from Jamshed Road area a few days ago. Further investigation is underway.
