Custodian of Delhi shrine goes missing in Lahore

LAHORE: The Custodian of Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya shrine in Delhi and his brother who were on a religious visit of Pakistan have gone missing from Lahore.

Syed Asif Nizami and his brother Nazim Nizami, who belong to the Nizamuddin Auliya shrine have lost contact with their family.

The Indian High Commission in Islamabad has informed Pakistan’s foreign office about missing Syed Asif Ali and his brother.

Foreign Office spokesman Nafees Zakaria said on Thursday that an Indian request seeking assistance for the recovery of two clerics had been received.

He said the request had been forwarded to the interior ministry, which is actively pursuing the matter.

According to reports in Indian media, two senior Indian clerics went missing from Lahore on Wednesday.

Asif Nizami and his brother Nazim Nizami, who belong to the Nizamuddin Auliya shrine in New Delhi, were on a religious tour in Pakistan when they are believed to have gone missing from Lahore.

Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj also took to Twitter and confirmed taking up the matter with government of Pakistan.
