Nine deaths were initially reported in the accident which took place on Tuesday afternoon during the Zuhr prayer gathering while there were around thirty five people trapped under the rubble.

The injured people were shifted to nearby hospitals including the Services Hospital while the bodies were taken to the Mayo Hospital.

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif also visited the site of roof collapse of Jamia Hanfia Daroghawala to review the rescue and relief operations.

Rescue work is moving at a slow pace and heavy machinery could not be transported to the site due to narrow streets and people of locality along with relief workers are carrying out relief work themselves.

President Mamnoon Hussain, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain expressed grief over the incident.
