ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chudhary Nisar Ali Khan said Friday that direct negotiations with the Taliban will start soon, ARY News reported.

Addressing a press conference at National Database Registration Authority (Nadra) headquarters here, he said terrorism could not be contained through erecting pickets. He was of the view that meeting between the government and Taliban committees would be held soon.

He said a plan had been devised to make Islamabad a ‘safe city’. He told the media that appointments in foreign departments would be made on merit.

The interior minister said several steps had been adopted to improve performance of Nadra. “The number of director generals in Nadra has been reduced to 24 from previous 36.”
