KHAIRPUR: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Wednesday arrested Director of Paragon Housing society Qaiser Ameen Butt from Khairpur where he went into hiding following the Bureau’s probe into the housing society scandal.
According to details, for past 15 years, Butt was in partnership with Khawaja Saad Rafique and Salman Rafique who were already accused of corruption in the case.
Earlier today, Khawaja brothers were granted a protective bail until November 26 by the Lahore High Court.
The Interior Ministry on the request of the anti-graft watchdog had placed the names of the two brothers and Qaiser Ameen Butt on the blacklist.
NAB had launched an investigation into the scandal after protests by dozens of victims against the housing society fraud.
Khawaja brothers seek transfer of case
On November 12, in a letter written to Chairman NAB, Justice retired Javed Iqbal, the Khawaja brothers have sought transfer of the ongoing cases against them form NAB Lahore after expressing distrust over DG NAB, Shehzad Saleem following his interviews to the media.
“On November 8 he [DG NAB Lahore] completely disregard the standard norms of the investigation process by participating in various talk shows.”, Khawaja brothers further stated in their letter.
“It is requested that the inquiries/investigations pending at NAB’s Lahore office, may kindly be moved to some other region for an independent, impartial and honest investigation,” reads the letter.
